All my desktop machines at home are connected via a 4-port Master View KVM switch to a 19'' BenQ FP937s TFT screen, the keyboard is an old Cherry keyboard, the mouse is an old MS IntelliMouse Explorer.
SAAVIKSAAVIK is currently my fastest desktop machine. It is an AMD64 X2 3800+ dual core from Fujitsu Siemens, bought in September of 2005. It has 3GB of Kingston ValueRAM, an NVidia GForce 6600 graphics card and two 220GB Seagate hard disks. Networking is done with an Nvidia NForce Networking controller. The DVD writer is a NEC DVD_RW ND3530A. When running Windows Vista, this box has a Vista "Windows Experience Index" value of 3.8. SULUSULU is an old Pentium III ("Coppermine") box with 1.5 GB of Kingston ValueRAM that dates back to ca. summer of 2003. It has a single SAMSUNG SP0812N 80GB hard disk attached to a Promise Technology Inc. Ultra IDE Controller. The graphics adapter is a RAGE 128 PRO Ultra GL AGP. Networking is done with the classic 3Com EtherLink XL 10/100 PCI TX NIC (3C905B-TX). Two imaging devices are attached to the box, a Philips ToUcam Pro Camera and a Miciotek USB3200 flatbed scanner. The CD-Writer is a PlexWriter 8/4/32A and the DVD drive is a TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-M1712.CHEKOVChekov is currently my oldest machine that is still in use, I bought it around christmas time in 1999. It has three UDMA66 capable hard disks (two IBM DPTA 371360 with 13.6 GB each, one IBM DPTA 372050 with 20.5 GB), 640 MB of RAM and two Celeron 466 Processors in an Abit BP6 Board. One of the 13.6 GB hard disks shares a 22.3 GB stripe set with the 20.5 GB harddisk. These three hard disks are connected to a HPT266 UDMA66 Controller. Additionally there is a 61.5 GB IBM IC35L060AVER07-0 hard disk attached to the first standard PIO Mode 4 capableEIDE channel. The second EIDE channel is shared by a Plextor PlexWriter 8/4/32 ATAPI CD Writer and a Toshiba SD-M1612ATAPI DVD/CD ROM drive. Networking is done with a D-Link DFE-528TFX PCI-Ethernet NIC for 100MBit Ethernet. The monitor is a 19'' BenQ FP937s TFT screen, driven by a ATI Rage Fury/Xpert 2000 ProAGP graphics adapter card with TV-out. Sound is made by a cheap but sufficient Creative LabsPCI Soundblaster card (PCI-128). RIPLEYRIPLEY is my Linux box running Ubuntu Hardy Heron and was an investment I made in early 2008. It has 1GB of Kingston ValueRAM memory and runs on an Intel D201GLY2 mobo with a 250GB Samsung hard disk. RIPLEY is a great piece of hardware and acts as my Subversion server. RIKERRIKER is my Acer Travelmate 5730 laptop computer with an Intel core 2 duo T9400 dual core processor ("Penryn") at 2.53 GHz and 4GB of RAM, bought in autumn of 2008. It has a 300 GB Western Digital (shudder!) hard disk and an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 graphics adapter. When running Windows Vista, this box has a Vista "Windows Experience Index" value of 5.1.
